I recently went to Gold's Gym and then called Bally's. I was horrified at the sign up fees. Does anyone know a way around these ridiculous sign up fees? I just want to pay $30-50 a month. That's it. I don't want a 14 year contract or anything like that. PLEASE HELP! I really want to start going to the gym.

I should have mentioned our YMCA is in the Ghetto and I do not want to go downtown to that gym. My car will most likely get broken into.

I joined a new L.A. fitness that is going into my area and the initial fee was $50.00 and it will be $29.99 plus taxes every month and since I joined before they opened my monthly fee will never go up. depending on where you live if you have one in your area. or go to www.dexonline.com and search for fitness centers in your area and call and ask what their membership fees are.

Try checking out the YMCA in your area. There are sign up fees; generally around 100 bucks and the membership is around 45 a month. They have everything other places have; if it's designated a "family center" you'll find a lot of children there, but the price is right and you can do what you gotta do for yourself.

No idea on how to get around these sign up fees. Do know that is the scam though as many (most actually) sign up believing that they are going to use these memberships to the full advantage and then up up either losing interest or getting involved in something else. That way they have your cash and your not using the facilities. What a scam they have going there.

Check your postal mail regularly. Most gyms send out advertisements which include coupons discounting or waiving the sign-up fees. The coupons often come in those big envelopes full of coupons. Right now (January) is a great time to be looking for coupons for gyms because they send a lot out at this time of year.

Check out these links for coupons or discounts:

http://www.valpak.com (a source of coupons that might be available in your area)

Good luck!

I would try a college/university gym... who allow visitors/external people to use the facilities... the whole year costs around $50 or so... they are very cheap since they're designed for students...
