Well if they are, where can I sign up for them?

In certain circles, and certain parts of society, in certain countries and cetain places at certain times, it has -always- been the norm. There's always been somewhere where such behaviour has been accepted - or at least swept under the carpet quietly and ignored. Which is generally the same thing as accepting it, only quieter.

Roman Citizens bonked anything that moved, in some cases, for example. By their standards, the "centre" of our society (at least in the West, which is where I live, and thus know about) is pretty damn conservative. Of course, when you get out towards the extremes on either side - complete abstinence or humping anything that shows an interest..

So it varies. I wouldn't say it's the norm, precisely, but it's far more accepted in many places now than it was fifty years ago - although not really any more common, as studies recently have shown that I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw them. Meh. Someone else might recall them?

Something about sex before marriage in fact being as common in the 50s as it is now...

Also, "one night stand" doesn't to me suggest "slutty", but rather "lonely". Having been rather a repeat offender in this area myself - the uniform did wonders - I can observe that one night stands are fairly pointless and not very fulfilling. Oh, they can seem it for a while, but eventually you just... get bored.

Also, a big thumbs up to Steve. Definitely agree with what he said.

It's funny you should ask that, because I was just telling a buddy of mine how much more difficult it is these days to know when woman finds you attractive and how to respond. Used to be a girl in a bar would send ME a drink and then it was on; now, you have to fear they'll call a cop if you tell them how pretty they are or touch their hand across a table. Don't listen to the people in here, most of them are living in tinytown, USA and haven't got a clue about the mating rituals in a major city. Just do whatever works for you and screen your dates a little more carefully than you think you need to. There are some screwballs out there and it's better to be safe than sorry...

I would say YES. I love the fact that the women that anwsered this already claim its "Slutty". Casual sex is a normal thing when its being done SAFELY and your not out looking for your soulmate. Don't expect to find your future husband/wife doing it. Consider the fact the divorce rate is increasing at a extremely rapid rate. People are now not looking so much to rush into marriage but to appreciate the feeling of sexual actions.

Normal? Yes.

Ethical? No.

The world's view on intimacy and sexual lifestyle is becoming GREATLY distorted. Don't get me wrong; everyone has the right to their individual choice, but as for me -- I don't see where we ever got the idea that it's okay to single out the ONE physical portion of having a relationship, and make an entire lifestyle out of it. And people wonder why it's so hard to find love nowadays? It's because of people in this world that tell you it's okay to use people for sex.

depends on the person, their beliefs, and the friends they hang out with.
If you're a deeply religious person, then 'no', they're never accepted as a normal thing to do.
If you're not, then it's up to you to decide, based on the self-image you have of yourself. if YOU don't feel it demeans you or lessens your character, then YOU will do it.
What you didn't ask was "are one night stands okay", and I think from a broad societal view, the answer would be 'no'...

Perhaps you could go to the CDC [Center for Disease Control] home page, and see the Multiple STD [Sexually Transmitted Diseases] listed there?

There are over 40 types of Chlamydia that are transmitted by Men [who are only the carriers] to women. That virus produces CERVICAL CANCER!

Happy New Year!

Thanks, RR

One night stands carry with them a lot of dangers, HIV being the major one!
