I train at 8pm in the evening for two hours - but i don't get home from work until 6.30pm. What is the best thing to eat for dinner, bearing in mind i will be running and jumping around for two hours?

Something small and light. I'd suggest a banana and a small bowl of porridge. Make sure the porridge is oats. DONT eat anything heavy or filling - with all that running and jumping it is a sure fire way to barf it all up. How many sportsmen eat a decent meal before rigorous exercise? Have you ever heard of a footballer having a full Sunday Roast before 3pm kickoff? Does Paula Radcliffe eat a huge bowl of pasta before a 26mile run? NO!!! Because if they/she did, it would be coming back up pretty soonish!!

You need carbs for energy; in other words, slow releasing energy foods. The porridge is your slow releasing energy, the banana is light, healthy and contains a good level of fructose (fruit sugars), which is metabolised quickly. You only need a tiny amount of food about 30 mins before exercising. Getting enough liquids is FAR more important. But again, dont overdo these either. It is very uncomfortable exercising when your gut is full of water!

Once you get back home, you will need to eat a proper meal - get some more carbs on the go plus a bit of protein. Eat some wholemeal pasta or rice with some meat. Mix up your diet for maximum health benefits.

I usually do 1.5 hrs down the gym 3-4 times a week. As well as a good sized lunch, i usually just eat a banana/slice of wholemeal bread 30-20 mins before gyming it in the evenings. Then i come home and eat a proper meal.

Have your dinner later but make sure you have a couple of bananas before training as they release potassium and will give you enough energy to get through volleyball.

Eating late isn't great but once or twice a week is ok and better than filling up before all that jumping around.

Maybe you should eating something little nothing that will make you full. Plus you maybe over doing it coming home from work and going right out to train for volleyball just keep it safe and you will be alright.

Try eating some carbs or protein.

Maybe pasta, or chicken will be good. Just make sure you eat something filling, because I'm sure you wouldn't want to starve while your out playing volley ball.
