My high school has only 16 AP courses, i was wondering if that's normal or less than the average. Will less AP courses discourage Ivy LEagues to look at me?

16 AP courses, when I was in high school, was far above average (we had about 6, and we were a magnet HS in Science/Engineering). It's probably still above average.

I would not say that simply having less AP courses discourges a college from looking at you. However, you need to keep in mind that:
* You are competing against students who are taking AP courses.
* The AP courses are available to you, and the admissions folks probably know that.

It's one thing if you don't have them available - the university admissions folks understand that. However, if you are making really good grades, but do not take AP courses that are offered at your high school, the university admissions folks may wonder why you didn't step up to the challenge of taking those available AP courses.

Same thing goes for honors courses - if honors courses are available to you and you qualify, but you don't take them, the obvious question is "Why not?".
