Your puppy can't ever catch a frisbee unless it has thumbs!! Sorry, couldn't resist....Actually, you use the frisbee as your puppy's feeding and water dish, and THEN you start to play with the puppy using the frisbee, rolling it around,tug-of-war,,etc....ONCE the dog realizes the frisbee is its source for food and water it'll protect it for life!! Good Luck ,have patience!

Start small then get closer and closer to the end behavior you want.

First: put the frisbee in the dogs mouthand say "Catch it." Take it back and again right away and say "Give it to me." Immediately replace the frisbee with a very high value treat like hot dog or chicken or freeze dried liver treat. VERY small pieces about the size of a pea. Repeat this until when you Ask him to Gve it to you you get an immedaitely response.

Then toss the frisbee a few feet (or inches if necessary) away and ask him to catch it. When you ask him to give it to you, he should bring it back to trade for his treat. As he gets better and more reliable at this, gradually toss the frisbee farther and farther away.

To get him to catch it in mid air, you could start by rolling it on the ground. He should be interested by this point in chasing it and bringing it back. Eventually you graduate him to short tosses and then longer and longer ones.

Note: though, that not all dogs will have the eyesight and coordination to be very good at catching frisbees in mid air. And the high jumps and air time you see in these frisbee competitions is hard on their joints. Depending on the age of the puppy, you want to be very careful and discuss with your vet when the puppy should be ready for "air time".

Reward the dog when it plays with the frisbee.......I'm curious as to why your puppy NEEDS to learn how to catch a frisbee.

Give him a frisbee and make him hold it in his mouth for about a minute. If he does, give him a treat. Start throwing the frisbee, and he will learn that if he holds it in his mouth he will get a treat. Then try to make him catch in the air by refusing to get him a treat if he catches on the ground.

Get an old frisbee that you have and start playing with your Dog with it. Thow it and have her fetch it back to you.
The more you play with the Dog & Frisbee the faster they will be ready to run and catch it.
