my dog is 14yres old this yre is this a good age for this breed?

it vary's on the genes but usually its around 15 to 17 years i have a 14 year old with no arthritis and acts like a two year old so it depends if she comes from a long lived line......
11 1/2 is a bad year if they survive that usually the next low point is 13 1/2 and if they survive that it can be up to 17 years old but its the quality not the quantity of life you have to look out for .....no point in fact its cruel to prolong life if the quality is not there ....the most loving thing a person can do is let the dog go when the quality of life goes........

i have a shitzu too and we was told the life expectancy is about 15 years - they live longer than other larger, breeds - the small the dog, the longer the life span!

i'd say it was an average age!
The life expectancy for this particular breed is 12 – 16 years.
I have know some to go on to be 20, it all depends on the health of you shih tzu!

Not really. Most dogs jsut live from 10-15 years. No more. If you want a really old dog who doesn't pounce or jump, perfect.

I am jealous that you have a shih Tzu we used to have one when i was a child but he died aged 10 and i am desperate to have another one but my husband doesn't like small dogs, suppose i will have to make do with my cats for now...

I think your dog is doing well. Mine just died. He was 10.5 in human years.

The one here was closed down in 1986, it was very poor quality and had problems with it's monkeys.
