I always seem to tear during child delivery. I had a midwife who said some sort of oil could help to keep that from happening...is that true? Has anyone ripped on one kid and then learned how not to on another? What works? Proven methods please.

I had a 2nd degree tear with my first. I had no tearing with my second and third babies.

Perineal massage with oil helps some women. You do it in the last trimester. Your midwife can explain how to do it. You'll want to use a natural oil like almond oil. Hubby can help you do this in the third trimester if you want. (And he doesn't need to wear gloves! Just have clean hands.)

Good nutrition in pregnancy can help to make your skin more elastic so there is less chance of tearing.

Have you considered waterbirth? My 2nd and 3rd were both waterbirths. The warm water really helps you to relax and takes away a lot of the discomfort. And it helps you stretch.

What pushing positions did you use for your other births? For a baby that is coming fast, side-lying can be helpful. Upright positions like squatting help to widen the pelvic outlet.

Talk to your caregiver about the possibility of doing perineal massage for you during pushing and about supporting your perineum during pushing.

Your midwife or doctor should massage the parineum with lube. Despite what you may have heard- it is better and easier to heal after a tear then an episiotomy. Unless you are at risk of tearing completely (all the way to your anus) I wouldn't do anything more then kegals and the massage.

Depending on how willing your is husband is, he may be able to do the massage (with a rubber glove of course) if you do not have a midwife.

well u could have them cut u so u can have more ability to strech, I think It is called an epesomity.

But now that I think about it my mom had them cut her and she still tore and I was only 5lbs a half ounce so maybe no pushing so fast and giving urself time to strech might do it. But if I were you I would ask ur doctor and if she doesn't know ask a few more there might be some herbal kind of remedy out there very people know about

it is much better if you tell the doc if it looks like it is going to tear to go ahead and just to a small cut to keep you from tearing.
