Mirko Filipovic "Cro Cop" (that his nickname by the way he was a Cop in Croatia) is a former soccer player as well as K-1 kickboxer.

Fedor "The Russian Experiment" Emelianenko trained in Russian Sambo (basically judo with a more extensive ground and submission training) while he was in the russian military

IMO they are on the same level and only a rematch could truly answer that question, Yes Fedor has a win over cro cop but if you watched the fight it was very close and Fedor's face showed who had the more devestating stikes, he may have gotten the win but he took a beating doing it.

Also you have to take into account that they fought over a year ago and while Fedor only fought twice against in 2006 beating a tired old man (Mark Coleman) and was almost submitted by Mark Hunt at PrideFC Shockwave 2006, although he did turn the fight around and get the submission victory. While Mirko Cro Cop defeated Japanese fighter Ikuhisa Minowa, Olympic Gold Medalist and Judo expert Hidehiko Yoshida, the always dangerous "axe murderer" Wanderlei Silva, and the #3 heavyweight in the world Josh "the baby faced assasin" Barnett, as well putting a belt around his own waist winning the Open Weight Grand Prix.

I think they are both in contention for #1 heavyweight and the only reason that they are currently ranked Fedor #1, Mirko #2 is because of their overall record.

First off, Cro Cop is my favorite. Now to answer your question, Fedor is #1 in the world for a reason.

He might not be the best in any one area of mma but he's above average in all and so well rounded. He's also very smart when he fights. Great example is when they fought, Fedor knew not to stand with Cro Cop and one of the few people that was able to bring Cro Cop down and control him. Than against Coleman he was very Cro Cop-esque but finished it with an armbar that was given to him.

Now Cro Cop is primarily a striker with a great sprawl. He doesn't really train to submit (except against Randleman, that was nice using a wrestler's worst nightmare).

In conclusion, Fedor > Cro Cop (Personally I think Barnett is the only one with a legitimate shot against Fedor).

A) Fedor - full stop - No Questions asked. he won 25 fights and never been beaten and has stopped 72% of his opponents in the time allowed. For all those bean counters out there ther was the Stoppage against Big Nog - but he was winning that and it doesnt affect his record and its not a loss. Even when hes been close to being in trouble - the RandlePlex and Fujita (i think) clipped him on the chin, he carried on to sub both - almost is if to say "how dare you even try to hurt me"

CroCop - is an awesome fighter and has had 2 more fights but has lost 4 and drawn 2. and he has lost to people that Fedor has beaten - well!

B) Style - Style went out the window 10 years ago - get with the program - these guys are Mixed Martial Artists. They blend several TMA into an art that transgresses range and form.

That being said Crocop comes from a standup background - Ie K1, but has good sub defense and technique - I believe that this comes from some sort of police training, spetznaz or Systema that he learnt in eastern Europe. Fedor on the other hand is more Sambo and judo based with the standup thrown in on top!

Quite a complicated little q!!!!

Cro Cop is practices kickboxing and Fedor practices kickboxing as well as judo and sambo. I like Cro Cop better, but total career wise Fedor is ranked higher by one place than Cro Cop. (Anotnio Rodrigo Nogueira is in the top spot, followed by these two. Antonio also fought as light heavy weight or would have even more points in the heavyweight division.) Just in case you are wondering how other people are ranked career wise, I've listed the sherdog site below for you.

Fedor is the better fighter because he utilizes his striking capabilities very well, plus Fidor is about 3 times stronger than Cro-Cop.

For some reason, I like Fedor better. Cro-cop has very deadly left kick, but to me, it all becomes repetition and all of the enemies have already known his weapon.
