In the Bible fire is a symbol of judgment. IT may not be literal fire as we know it, but it definately applies to judgment that God will give. One place calls hell outer darkness. one place describes it as removed from everything that is good.
As far as your other comments, it is the soul of man that goes to hell and suffers for eternity. Another reason why hell may not be literal fire.

Power, Control, and the Authority to do so
supposedly we have free will
but if we freely choose to deny, a thunder man god willl punish us forever and forget about being a god of love
religion and free will do not go hand in hand
if you are a believer, you are submitted and enslaved into brainwashing and living as a servant of 'god' which ends up being Man who created the same religion, like Paul twisted Judaism, Gnosticism and Mysticism into christianity

Fire, heat...those are the punishments threatened by people who live in an environment where the blazing heat of summer is the most dangerous to survivial.
In very cold regions, the place of punishment is COLD (Norse).
So ya see, it all comes back to the environment that people lived in. Their ideas about the nature of "God", their ideas about the nature of "hell", and so on.:

God doesn't punish people yet, and believers pray for the Clemecy of God ,for the Forgiveness of God, not for the Justice of God,because we all have sins.
The bed things which happen today,which you call punish, are the resultes of the mens sins,which are not forgived by God yet.

because of the fact they decide directly to bypass the large print. that is God who makes the hurricane(Zach 10:a million). that is God who brings the clouds to punish men or water the earth and teach his love.(interest 37:13). God thunders from heaven the voice of the main severe resounded.He shot arrows and scattered the enemies, bolts of lightning and routed them.(2 Samuel 22:14-15).

Fire is used to test our works to see if they were good or bad. When we die our spirits go to heaven or hell. When Jesus comes back our bodies will be without blemish. They will be perfect if we are going to heaven.
