I told my son that a Mum and a Dad make a baby and that it grows inside the Mummy. He was happy with this answer. Answering tough questions honestly but without volunteering any more information than necessary is usually the best plan.

I have a 5 year old and she asked me that question when I was expecting again a couple of years ago. I just told her that when a mommy and a daddy want to have a baby they hug in a very special way that only mommies and daddies can do. I told her that the daddy puts the "seed" for the baby inside mommy's belly and it grows there until it is ready to come out! Hope that helps!

Tell the truth in a context they can understand, with out going into too much detail. You're probably worrying about it too much. Your toddler probably just wants a simple answer, and that will be good enough. This is a great time to start opening the lines of communication. My kids know the proper names for all their parts, and we answer all questions openly and honestly (with info appropriate for their ages). What is there to be worried or embarassed about?

This is a difficult one to explain. It depends on your child. You stated you have a preschool toddler. If you are active in your religion this one worked for me. We explained that God put the baby in mommy's tummy. Then somewhere down the line he thought that women that ate alot were growing babies. He is too young to go into detail so whatever you see fit to say will work until he gets older. Thats when the good questions come.....just wait this is only the beginning.

When my daughter was toddler age, she asked the same thing. Our answer to her was that mommy and daddy made the baby and it lives in mommies tummy for 9 months.
Luckily, most toddlers attention spans are so short that we didn't have to go any further.

Tell him but in simpiler words like "When a mom and dad love eachother we do a special thing kinda like a hug and stuff called sperm goes into me and makes the baby Then months later the baby comes out". Don't use to hard words or your kid may be confused. So you can explain sex without being to graphic.

There is a good book for toddlers called "when you were inside mommy" that explains that you grow in moms belly and come out of a "special opening"
It's honest and truthful without being graphic.
