Im just asking this because I want to ask her how one of my friends is doing at school, since I dont keep contact with him. I just dont want to be shut down. If I ask stuff like do you know (name), will I get shut down?

If all you want to ask about is a friend, there is no real reason why her being "taken" would matter. Don't bother about something that happened in years past. The only way you can find out the extent of her relationship is to ask her.

Why don't you try talking to the girl? It seems like you're a little interested but not willing to find out for sure. Only she can tell you the answer you wanna know.

There is no reason for her to shut you down just cause you asked if she knows (name). She might if you ask her to much about this guy cause she might think your gay.
