I am researching all different types of dog breeds and I was wondering if you guys had any great websites to go to, I have looked at a ton but would like to look at more, I am looking to get a large breed dog soon and seeing as I am willing to pay alot for it my husband wants me to research more on other dogs before I lay a Finnish SPitz as my final dog, so if you have anything at all please tell me, will greatly be appreciated.

I wanted the Finnish Spitz for being gentle around horses I have heard and also to get it going into agility shows and obedience classes. but I have a list of questions I have asked myself and the owner of certain breeds of dogs but it came to rest on the Finnish Spitz but my husband just wants me to be sure so I dont spend 700 on this animal and it doesnt suite what i need it for. thank you all.

I not going to be much help on the web site thing, but I do think you need to ask yourself some ??'s before you make up your mind. Do you just want a house pet or do you want it to do a specific job (retrieving down birds, tracking game, guarding the house, or herding domestic animals or Kids)? Do you have the space that many breeds require? Will the dog stay inside, outside, or a mix of both? Do you plan on breeding the dog for $'s. Do you have the Time to properly train the dog? These are just a few of the many ??'s that you may or may not have answered yet.
You may be able to save some $ by finding a dog that has a mix of the qualities that you want. A cross breed may be a great choice. That is if you don't plan on breeding it. You may just only want a certain breed. There are aslo some health advantages to having crossbred animals. Science has proven that crossbred animals have Hybrid Vigor. In other words they are less susceptible to disease.
I have owned both pure and cross breed. I know have 2 mutts. The first is a Lab and Weimeraner cross (My Bird Dog) and the second is a German Shepard and Who knows what Cross (The House Hound). They have both been easy keepers. The only way I would by another purebred dog was if I decided to get into field trials and breeding.
I hope this was helpful.

I don't know any websites that you can go to to buy a dog, but have you considered going online to a humane society and seeing what kind of large breeds they have there. Plus the adoption fee for any size dog is one low flat rate and you will be giving a deserving dog a second chance at a loving and permanent home.

Try the American Kennel Club site or maybe Purina site. I think either has breed personality information. Narrow it down to about 4 or 5 breeds then do a search for those breeds. Look for breeders and contact them. Tell them you are possibly interested in that breed and could they give you pros AND cons to that dogs basic temperments and health issues. You don't have to buy from them but if it is a breed you finally choose ask them if they know of anyone local that is reputable. PLEASE do not buy from a pet store. Good luck

there's other questions you need to resolve first, for example:
will the dog be inside or outside?
children and other pets or not?
how big is your property or living space?
how much attention and exercise will the dog get daily?
what do you want the dog for? pet or protection?
consider the type of dog for the climate.
breed of dog and temperament / personality
genetic issues and diseases common to the breed of dog you want - research this.

hi,
I love Labs, I stay away from the spitz family because I don't care for the hair, It is a grooming job every day. Labs are great to take camping and such and if you are looking for a more foo foo dog a standard large poodle you can not beat for companionship and they are so intellegent. There are so many different ways to groom them such as the town and country which I prefer then there is the saddle cut, you can dred them, the possibilities are endles and they house break easy,

I don't know about sites, but my 5 year old Chocolate Lab is absolutely the love of my life. Highly intelligent, friendly to all, happy and loyal, entertaining, sweet, healthy...
There is something special about Chocolate Labradors. If you have a loving home and time to spend with one, don't rule them out!
