Birds learn calls from their populations, birds like parrots, mina-birds, mocking birds etc, have the ability to learn more complex calls, thus giving them the ability to learn words insted of normal bird calls, some birds, like certain types of parrots, can then learn to associated certain calls/words with certain events or items, such as when someone comes in it says "Hello". They just have the ability to do more complex vocalizations, you can teach this to smaller birds such as buddgies and parrokeets, but they aren't as good as it because they don't have the vocalization abilities of the birds which can do more complex calls.

The ability comes from the shape of their tongues along with the other things mentioned above.

make a voice recording of your voice saying the word or phrase that you are trying to teach it. my sure the word is crisp and clear.
