In my opinion if a single, childless person wants and can have more than one lover, that's fine. But marriage should be monogamous, especially if the couple intend to have children. If you can't be monogamous, stay single.

The same term is used for a woman marrying more than one man, by the way.
Personally I have no objection. If all parties involved are okay with it then why not? Humans are naturally polyamorous, so why should we have only one partner? The idea of monogamy is entirely socially constructed and serves no real purpose. I don't have any intentions myself of marrying more than one person, but it doesn't bother me if someone else wants to.
Obviously there are some religious objections, but to legislate on those would be a violation of the separation of church and state. As long as people have a choice, what's the problem?

There is nothing in the Bible that says you can't have more than one wife. In fact many people mentioned in the Bible had more than one. The only time it says a man should only have one wife is when it talks about being a leader in the church should be a man of only one wife. I don't think it's is wrong but who wants more than one anyway. One wife is hard enough.

It is disgusting...I am a married woman ( not a muslim). The very idea of my husband having another wife and the fact that I will have to accept it makes me sick.
I wonder..... Are there any women out there with this experience?

If it is about taking in a woman whos husband has died and would be vunerable otherwise then in those limited circumstances yes. Otherwise it does not make for a stable society when some people have more than one wife leaving others with none, having sexually mature frustrated Males on the loose is generally not clever.

Hell no. I'll share anything, my toothbrush, my food, my car, etc. but I WILL NOT share my husband. I don't comprehend how women can go to sleep alone knowing their man is in another room in the house sleeping with another woman. If this scenario went down in my home, SOMEONE would have to die. End of story.

No, God put up with it in ancient times, but I don't think it was His ideal image of marriage. You can only love one person, if you are married to two or more, chances are, only one is actually loved. That is very unfair.
If you don't think God ever puts up with things He doesn't like, look at when Israel wanted a king and He gave them one even though He knew that they were rejecting Him as their only King, or the fact that it was legal in Israel to get a divorce, even though God intended marriage to last till death.

No. What once served a purpose (in a time when women were more vulnerable) is now just an excuse for selfish men to serve their own fantasies.
Would men want to share their wives with many husbands? In our culture, I think not. .

It is a nice idea, but who can afford it? I understand, and may be wrong, that the Mormons, are now limited to only three wives. Considering what one female is like on PMS, three must be a version of HELL!

if a guy could have a dozen wives who all took care of him,and could sleep with a different one every night that would be heaven..but when they all got tired of sharing him and started divorcing him and hitting him with alimony and child support that would be hell.better to be single then you can have many women at the same time without the B.S.
