I was married before and our dj sucked. It really makes me nervous.

For my wedding, i really just researched potential DJ's and made my decisions based on the info i got from them.

I went through my phone book and jotted down all the names and email addresses of the companies. I made a general email to all of them at once that stated what my wishes were for my wedding, how much i was willing to spend, location, times, and all other relevant info. I included my address and did not commit to talking to any of the DJ's by phone until I got the info I wanted from them. I had a few that i weeded out by how pushy they were, disclaimers they made, and ones that werent licensed. The ones who were left I created a spreadsheet of questions that i used to interview them, face to face.

I had a few websites i went to for advice- this one was probably a nicer one of the few i looked at : http://www.aclassyaffair.com/sanjose/dj_djs/wedding/How-To-Hire-A-San-Jose-Wedding-DJ.htm

Big thing though- is i asked around to those who have been married and asked for referrals. Nothing is better than using someone who has been tried out before...lol.

Finally I just went by gut feelings. If it wasnt right, it just wasnt right. I didnt sign with the first company. I just informed them that i was making my decision on a certain date and would contact them if i were going to be using them. That worked out to my benefit because the guy who we chose is actually giving us a 300 discount for being the first to book in 2008!

Make sure everything is in writing!!! Good luck!

Get references. Tell the DJ EXACTLY what music you want played, & when. And what kind of music you want played throughout the night. If you have to, draw up a list so that he has something to go by.
Make sure you are CONFIDENT this person can do the job. Get a contract.

ask for references from them and call several people they have done weddings for. Also, go watch them if they ever play somewhere you can. Most of them do and dont mind someone watching. also, ask people around town if they have heard of them, then see what there opinion is.
