Suzie is right on this one!
A pathological liar is someone who often embellishes his or her stories in a way that he or she believes will impress people. It may be that a pathological liar is different from a normal liar in that a pathological liar believes the lie he or she is telling to be true—at least in public—and is "playing" the role. He or she sometimes is seen to have a serious mental problem that needs to be rectified.
Please go through the following website, if you have to confront the person.
It is not clear, however, that this is the case. It could also be that pathological liars know precisely what they are doing. Making up stories and at the same time believing them is known as confabulation. The term "pathological liar" is not an official clinical diagnosis however psychiatrists may agree that pathological lying is often the result of a mental disorder or low self-esteem.
Even though pathological lying is not recognized as a clinical disorder, legal court cases often require that you prove that the defendant is aware that he or she is lying. This proof is most important in cases of slander and/or liability.

Deposit this thought into that person who is a habitual liar.
The only way you can stop lying - is one lie at a time.
It is like being evil, corrupt and violent for so long - that you call evil good.
I know the man who can take it out of his or her life immediately, but no one wants to hear about Jesus. When Jesus becomes his only hope, then he will listen.

I'm not sure what it's called, but it sounds like this person needs to be confronted and told that you know he lies.
He could feel inadequate in some way and feels he has to lie to make people like him or something like this.
I think he needs someone to suggest to him that he needs help with this because there could be a number of reasons why he's doing it. His life is a lie and he needs to stop and understand why he's doing it, put an end to it and know that people are aware of it.

He is a pathological liar. He thinks things up manifests and soon may believe his own lie... he will not admit his lie but will lie about it further. He is a good one to stay away from.He will get you both into such hot water you may not be able to recover. My daughter dated one for a year.He ruined her financially, and she is a wreck
Run and hide, and do not believe any of his dramatic confabulations no matter how sincere he is being

Confront your friend, tell them you know they are lying. Your friend does not sound mentally ill just manipulative & cunning. Perhaps cut off contact or limit contact as much as possible.

i would say this person is delusional, not an expert here, but i would either stay away, or if that is impossible, try to get them to treatment, or just don't believe anything at all.
