How many times a year do cats get their periods? My friend told me they get it 2 weeks a year.

A female cat can come into season between Jan & Nov from about 6 months old. Each 'season' lasts about 1 week & there is a gap of roughly 2 weeks between seasons. Unless you really want to breed from your cat you should have her spayed at about 6 months old.

Your friend is sort of right, it's called being 'in season'. Cats are seasonally polyestrous, which means they may have many periods of heat over the course of a year. A heat period lasts about 4 to 7 days if the female is bred; if she is not, the heat period lasts longer.

Cats are such cranky critters I reckon they're on their periods 24/7, 365 days a year - males as well as females.

Once they go into heat the first time it will last about a week or two then they will have about a two week break before they go into heat again. This will continue until you get her spayed.
