It is always better to buy it when you are in Thailand. You might consider getting about 2000THB in cash before leaving - just to have some for small expenses as you arrive - say, taxi from the airport. But DO get small change! The taxi driver will not be happy when they take you into the city for about 150 Baht and then you pull out 1000 baht note.

It sounds like you might not have travelled to Thailand (or overseas) at all before. If this the case then another suggestion is not to carry too much cash at all because if you lose cash - stolen or otherwise, you will have no back up. Get traveller cheques, or Travelex card - this is becoming very popular and I have used it myself and it is very convenient. With travelex - you also get TWO cards so if you lose one you still have a back up.

Talk to your travel agent about it.

Thailand by far, they will give you much better rates. I used to buy Baht at the old aiport in Bangkok but I'm sure the new one will have money changers there. Oh and always use the money changers in their small stalls not the banks.

It will also be a better rate than using an ATM by the way, it is because the money changers throught Asia take a much smaller spread than banks anywhere. However do not bring all the money you wish to spend on the trip in cash, that would be a false and dangerous economy.

Thai baht will undoubtedly be cheaper here than it will be in UK.. that is just the way it works with currency.. You are almost always better off to get it in its home country.. And, if you are concerned about landing with no money, they have places to change right in the airport terminal.. It might be slightly more expensive than changing at an ATM which I am sure they have at the airport as well or at a bank in town, but certainly cheaper than in the UK.. And Welcome to Thailand!!!

just get abit for taxi's and such like untill you get to Bangkok once settled in you can change more.

Not sure where your from but make sure your bank cards/credit cards are accepted over there - when i was there last one of my cards didnt work too well - even though used it there the previous trip out there.

Just for ur info, last time i went i got 68baht to the £, in Bangkok i got 80 baht.

The new airport has got afew places to change money. Otherwise go into central Bangkok and look for a ATM, theres loads. I would say though to get cash out and avoid using your card to buy things out right - alot of fraud about
