You can look for scholarships various ways, including at your local library, through the internet, through your high school, college counselor, and by looking specific scholarships that help you directly in the field you want to go to. The best experience and source I have had is:
The Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship www.gmsp.org
United ***** College Fund
Coca-Cola
McDonald's
and field specific scholarships such as Nursing, Teacher Assistantships, etc.

First complete your FAFSA as that will determine if you qualify for federal grants (Pell, ACG, SMART, SEOG) then start looking for scholarships. A few free scholarship search programs are www.fastweb.com and www.scholarship.com and I will stress do NOT ever pay for a scholarship not even for a search these programs are for free money so if anyone ever asks for money it is a scam.
