Hi there, My little boy puss (1 year old) has been fighting with our other cat (1 year old girl).

He now is missing a patch of fur about the size of a smartie, or bit bigger (about 1.5cm in diameter) and the skin underneath is red and raw. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is his usual self, but Im worried that it might get infected.

How should I treat it? How long should it take to go away?

Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide, dry it and put antibiotic ointment on it, twice a day. If it starts getting puffy or smells bad, take your boy to the vets. It's becoming infected and will need to be treated by a pro. It will take about a week to scab over healthily and another 2 weeks to begin looking normal.

Most times cats will get an abcess. Just clean the area with Epsom Salts dissolved in Water and bathe it. My cats have had abcesses and they are like pimples and will burst on their own. It will smell really bad. If this happens just keep up the cleaning with Epsom Salts and it should heal properly. If you are really worried, take him to a vet. By the way, are the cats desexed?? If they aren't I would suggest you do that or they will reproduce and keep fighting. Maybe this is what the fight was over in the first place. She may be coming on heat and he can sense that.

if i were you i would take your pet to a vet or ask a local pet store if they have any med. that you could put on it. you might want to get them spayed and neutered if you have not already. they may be fighting because one of them wants a litter and th other does not. if you already do have that taken care of then i think you should re-introduce them to each other so that they know there is another cat in the house.
