I've seen pc's avdertised as vista ready, how are they different, is is it advertising hype to convince us to buy a new machine? Is vista 32 bit or 64?

What is a Windows Vista Capable PC?
A new PC that carries the Windows Vista Capable PC logo can run Windows Vista. All editions of Windows Vista will deliver core experiences such as innovations in organizing and finding information, security, and reliability. All Windows Vista Capable PCs will run these core experiences at a minimum. Some features available in the premium editions of Windows Vista—like the new Windows Aero user experience—may require advanced or additional hardware.
A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:
* A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
* 512 MB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
To get an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience, ask for a Windows Vista Capable PC that is designated Premium Ready, or choose a PC that meets or exceeds the Premium Ready requirements described below. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.
A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
* 1 GB of system memory.

Vista is coming out this January 29,2007
Vista is available in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
It is hard to run applications and drivers in the 64 bit version because of restricted registry access. So get the 32 bit version if you want to have no problems with compatibility.
Most modern PC's can run Vista already (just not the Aero-Blast interface - it take a powerful video card)
Vista Capable has AT LEAST the ff. specs:
800Mhz Processor
512MB ram
Direct X 9 capable video card
Vista Premium can run ALL the vista features especially the Aero -Blast Interface:
1Ghz processor
1GB ram
And most importantly :
DirectX 9-class video card that supports:
* A WDDM Driver
* Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware

Vista will require 1GB memory, 1.8 GHz processor and lastest video cards to run properly. Vista is available in 32 and 64 bit. The higher end Vista will require higher system requirements.

Vista comes with 32 and 64 bit versions. Both versions are bundled together.
If a PC is vista ready it simply means that the hardware is suitable for running vista. If you want to check your PC would be compatible there are various sites containing checkers such as

for vista you really need 2Gb of ram, anda good graphics card for the areo interface.
vista ready just means it means the harware requirments required for it. just because it meets the minimum i would make sure you spec your compter as ready as you can, as far as i know vista comes in both 32 an 64 bit

No you won't need to buy a new machine..
The Vista will be released in a few months, and you can simply buy the upgaded software in shops.
See if your pc is able to run VISTA using this report. You will need to download it but it is safe and trusted (I used it as well)
