OMGoodness! You asked a question I totally wonder about too. I love to sing karaoke and anything to do with singing. If the song hits a sad note with me, I get a big lump in my throat and cannot seem to swallow. It could be more than just sadness that does this though. It could be a polyp or a growth in the throat too that needs a doctor's care. Go see the doc. It is nothing to mess around with.

My Daddy died of throat cancer so I have a pretty good idea of what I really don't want to know about and it scares me a lot and I am just not brave enough to get the diagnosis. Good luck to you.

It could be dried up mucas/cold in your throat. If you work your throat muscles you can get it out of your throat, and it comes out in little yellow balls. They stink too. I believe if you have post nasal drip this happens.

It could be a cold, bronchitis, or just a scratch on the esophageal lining caused by rough food (maybe a sharp potato chip). If the problem persists for more than a day or two, see a doctor.
