Our cat is weak and can't eat or meow. His eyes are almost closed and he's dirty because he can't clean himself. He also has puss around his mouth. Does he have rabies or some other disease?

All of these symptoms can be attributed to Feline Herpes Virus Infection or Feline calici virus infection. These 2 virus are the commonest respiratory infection in cat and their symptoms almost the same with only very little difference. When there is severe eye discharge which become mucopurulent later causing the eyes to stick together, this is more of herpes. Calici is more on the mouth causing ulceration, difficult respiration and often pneumonia. Both cause nasal discharge. Sometimes it is difficult which of the two is the culprit and sometimes also these 2 virus goes together causing a more severe symptoms. That is why during vaccination of cat these 2 virus always goes together in one shot. Anyway call it a respiratory infection and this needs medical attention. Sometimes the cat dies if left unattended. Bring her to the vet so she will be given antibiotic injection and follow up prescription. This is not rabies as rabies symptoms are entirely different (more on the brain is affected).

That sounds like a serious case of calicia (sp). Your cat can/will die from this if you do not get him into the Vet ASAP. Check your cat to see if he is dehydrated. You can do this by lifting up the scruff of his neck (just the skin) if it doesnt immediately go back down your cat is dehydrated and is going to need fluids. Please, Please get your kitty to the Vet ASAP.

I am not a Vet but Again I will say that your cat sounds like he has calicia. I just went through this same thing with a foster cat that exhibited these same problems. Puss from the Mouth, Eyes shutting. Did you notice before if the cat was doing any type of coughing before hand while eating before it stopped eating? Any sores inside the mouth? How does his nose look? Any redness around the nose?

Seriously...take your kitty into the Vet ASAP
