The Levels of Hell

There are variations in the degrees of heat in Hell, and in the levels of punishment which Allaah (swt) has prepared for its inhabitants; there is not just one level.

As Allah says:
"Verily the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths [grade] of the
Fire"(4:145)

Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Zayd ibn Aslam said, "The levels of paradise go up and the levels of Hell go down" [Ibn Rajab, at-Takhweef min an-Naar, p.5]. It was reported from some of the Salaf that the sinners amongst the monotheists who enter Hell would be in the first level, the Jews would be in the second level, the Christians in the third level, the Sabians in the fourth level,
the Magians in the fifth level, the polytheist Arabs in the sixth level and the hypocrites in the seventh level (1) Some books give names to these levels: the first is called Jahanam, the second Ladhaa, the third al-Hutamah, the fourth as-Sa'eer, the fifth Saqar, the sixth al-Jaheem, and the seventh al-Hawiyah.

ppl will be given diff kinds of punishment acc 2 deir sins
Prophet Muhammad (saw)said concerning the people of Hell: “There are some whom the Fire will take up to their ankles, others up to their knees, others up to their waists, and yet others up to their collarbones.” [Muslim]

In the long narration of Israa' (the miraculous Ascension of the Prophet to heavens), the Prophet was reported to have seen different scenes of the Hell-dwellers. Among them were:

- People who used to unjustly eat up the property of the orphans. They have flews similar to those of camels, swallowing red-hot stones and then issuing out of their backs.

- A man swimming in a river of blood and he was being struck in his mouth with rocks which he then swallowed. The Prophet asked: "What is this, O Jibreel?asked muhammed(saw) He replied: "This is what happens to those who eat usury."

- A man who had gathered a stack of wood which he could not carry, yet he was adding more wood to it. He said: "What is this, O Jibreel?"asked muhammed(saw) He replied: "This is a man from your Nation who gets people's trusts when he cannot fulfill them, yet he insists on carrying them."

- People whose tongues and lips were being sliced with knives. Every time they were sliced they would return to their original state to be sliced again without respite. He said: "Who are these, O Jibreel?"asked muhammed(saw) He replied: "These are the preachers from among your Nation who used to advise others to do what they themselves don't do…"

- People who had copper nails with which they scratched their own faces and chests. He asked: "Who are these, O Jibreel?" asked muhammed(saw)He replied: "These are the ones who ate the flesh of people (i.e., by backbiting) and tarnished their reputations." [Al-Bukhaari & Muslim]

Muslims are only told that the Hell is structured to 7 levels and each levels is specifically made for one particular group. The punishment? God knows best.

kaafirs who hear the message of the Prophet (peace and advantages of Allaah be upon him) and don't enter Islam will circulate to Hell. I couldn't find descriptions of each level, but this should help you out.

The Gates of Hell are Seven

Then God tells us that Hell has seven gates:

(for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.) means, for each gate a portion of the followers of Satan have been decreed, and they will have no choice in the matter. May God save us from that. Each one will enter a gate according to his deeds, and will settle in a level of Hell according to his deeds. Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Samurah bin Jundub reported from the Prophet about,

(for each of those gates is a class assigned.) He said,

(Among the people of Hell are those whom the Fire will swallow up to the ankles, and those whom it will swallow up to the waist, and those whom it will swallow up to the collarbone.) The degree of which will depend upon their deeds. This is like the Ayah;

(for each of those gates is a class assigned.)

(45. Truly, those who have piety, will dwell in Gardens and water springs.) (46. (It will be said to them): "Enter it in peace and security.'') (47. And We shall remove any deep feeling of bitterness from their breasts. (So they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones.) (48. No sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they be asked to leave it. (49. Declare to My servants that I am truly the Forgiving, the Most Merciful.) (50. And that My torment is indeed the most painful torment.)

Volume 8, Book 76, Number 566:

Narrated An-Nu'man:

I heard the Prophet saying, "The person who will have the least punishment from amongst the Hell Fire people on the Day of Resurrection, will be a man under whose arch of the feet a smoldering ember will be placed so that his brain will boil because of it."

Book 3, Number 0979:

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) used to say after the tashahhud(during prayer): "O God, I seek refuge in Thee from the punishment in Hell, and I seek refuge in Thee from the punishment in the grave, and I seek refuge in Thee from the trial of antichrist, and I seek refuge in Thee from the trial of life and death."
