I currently work from an acer laptop and recently it has become extremely slow when performing any actions. I'm not sure if there's a virus on it or not, I have F-secure virus software which says there's no virus on it but still the computer works slowly. Is it therefore possible to get some software which will examine my computer and resolve any problems?

My answer assumes your laptop has a Windows XP:

Try TuneUp software... It's a good maintenance tool for every PC.

For now, look for the task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del). Then Performance. You'll see the CPU usage and Physical Memory that is currently free. If the CPU Usage is 100% always, there's something wrong with a program that's using all the CPU power. Check the Processes tab and look for the program that is consuming the CPU. If its categorized other than your User Name, I suggest you shouldn't touch it and consult a personal helper. But if its a program labeled under your Own Name, then I suggest to end the process and uninstall the software associated with it.
