There is no such thing as 'improving' memmory, but there are some effective methods to study.
1) You should be able to understand your theory thoroughly.
2) Read through your notes carefully and understand the theory
3) Work out problems and 'thought' problems.
4) If you have to memmorise, then write down whatever you read.
You never forget if you write and practice.

i got ur same problem when i was in university n i passed all subjects(thesis) in flying results.i m happy here to give u the following hints:
1) always remember by heart about the terms n definitions.
2) memorise again n again till u can remember it the next day.
3) u must read it out n sit upright facing the wall in a quiet room.
4) u can use tape recorder to track ur reading.
5) always jot down important points or clues on ur notebook n bring back 4 revision everyday.
6) when exam is near, don't study at midnite oil.u just revise it n sleep early.
i hope all these w'd help u something.

best wishes n happy new year.

Well, when u begin to read a chapter, first know all the topics being covered in it....just flip thru' the pages once & then start studying in detail.
Secondly, when u are reading try to visualize things & try to relate them to real world ( if thats not possible then fantasy world might help as well).
Thirdly, try to take up some keywords in every paragraph & remember them(may be in some sequence)....later u can elaborate on them.
Finally if all this doesn't work then try writing (recall & write) after u finish reading.

Inculcation or doing something over so often it becomes second nature is the best way i know. Since your in med school find someone who is going through on the military. They have picked up some very effective ways to learn. It makes a difference when its life or death for you as well as the patient.

a human memory has only a limit at at time, it accumulate as it matures, it won't mature if it experiencing stresses. it a choice. be satisfied for what you got at these moment, you can maximize it by lowering the load and keep the ones which is important.put it on visual, or sound. try not to keep any feelings of guilt. fix it right away as soon as possible. its one of the major loads always running on the memory.

In order to remember something for good, you should revise it and revise the same thing(s) a day later (i.e. after you have slept), a week later and a month later.
