There is a small amount of public metered parking around the mall but it is almost impossible to get a space and if you do there is a time limit - use the Metro - it is much much cheaper than a D.C. parking ticket.

There are places to sit in the public buildings but generally there are very limited outside places to sit in the areas of the monuments. If you need to rest I suggest you consider purchasing the three legged collapasble stool available on the Web from travel companies. It sells for about $40 and folds into litlle more than a cane.

Parking is impossible in downtown D.C, and even if you find a lot they will still charge you. It is a much better idea to take our public transit system Metro, it is very user friendly, clean, safe, and will get you where you need to go, for the Mall most people usually end up using the Smithsonian Station. Have fun on your trip

parking is tight around the mall area. Metro rail is cheap and will drop you on the mall. Pentagon City is a great place to catch the subway and a short ride to the National Mall.

You can find parking depending on what time of day you come. There must be parking, Park your car and take the Metro into town. Park with meters. There are all day garages. Look at how many cars are already parked when you are looking for a space to park

Not much cheap parking near the Mall except on Ohio Southwest Drive in between Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial. The best part is it is free and you can stay as long as you want.
