Hey,
I just started dating this guy and I am not for sure if it is going to work and I need some advice. Okay, so I am completely against smoking, alcoholism (or under aged drinking), and drug addiction. My new boyfriend has smoked in his past, and has had some drinks (vodka and stuff like that), but it's not legal for him to be drinking yet, meaning we aren't 21. I like him and have liked him for a while, even when we were not going out, but I am against drinking and smoking. I am not for sure if he still does this, but the other day when some of us were at his house he and his friend were drinking something out of paper cups, and I'm worried he still does all this bad stuff. He knows that I am against this, and I'm scared to talk about it, since we are haven't been going on for a long time.
What should I do?

I meant that I like him because it's fun to hang out with him and we have a good relationship, it's just the drinking and smoking bothers me

how old are you and this guy.

Im from ireland 18yr is the age you have to be here to drink, but if your with an adult (your parents) you can get drink at 17. When i was in school it was legal to buy ciggs at 16. If you within this age group i think its ok as long as you are responsible about it.

As for drugs, thats when i put my foot down, totally against drugs, get him to stop that or leave his druggie ***

okay everyone above the age of 18 or under the age of 18 smokes drinks has sex and does drugs. Now if you dont like it in a particular person that you know you have a thing for then the best way is to tell the truth. otherwise you will keep it bottled up he will misunderstand it as something else and then that will create a mountain out of a mole hill
instead if you tell him the truth and tell him that u dont like it if he really likes you as a friend or a person he has a future with then he will respect your wishes and stop doing "the bad stuff"

You do not like persons who smoke or drink or take drugs but you still want this guy. Rethink that is my suggestion. If you do not have a guy of your choice what is the motive of carrying an affair. Are you some type of reformist. Be practical. You may find the relationship difficulty later on.

I, like you, am against drugs and alcohol as well. I am 23 now but when I was 18, I was dating a guy that smoked cigs and drank. I hated it. I always tried to get him to stop, it didn't work. It just made me mad and upset. To say the least the relationship didn't work out. I would say that if you still think that he does it, chances are that he does and to get out of the relationship as it will not last. One lesson I did learn was that you will never change them. They can only change themselves.

Talk to him in a frank but not nagging way tell him you are concerned about him and you want an honest answer if he is still smoking and drinking if he cares about you he will be honest and willing to work on his habits. But be tactful and don't nag him or you will defeat your purpose

You don't like it and it worries you however you are scared to talk about it.
whats the worse that could happen he still drinks and smokes and guess what............

its his loss for being such a loser......

You go on to find someone with better morales and higher class.

Best wishes

Drinking and smoking is common with boys. Try talking to him, if he understands ,good,if not leave him to his fate.

I would say that you should talk to him about it, and just explain to him that it bothers you. If he says that he doesn't care or that if he's fine with it you should be, then dump him. He would be a freak then and doesn't deserve you.
Best of Luck!
