I had been sharing two different apartments with this particular roommate for the period of 6 months.

Because of recent problem developed this week due to rotten 2-week old meat left in the pot with the transparent lid on found atop the microwave oven (I'm not kidding) among other common use area sanitary issues, I sort of argued with the "lazy" roommate (the only other one in the 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment) who is always negligible in keeping the kitchen clean on the constant basis.

I told him I'm not a maid who have to keep arranging his dishes & wiping stains off the counter and grease off the stove top.

The roommate's lazy habit have exceeded my tolerance limit & I lost it which led to conflict this week. I'm moving out as the result of the outcome.

How do one go on handling a lazy, uncooperative & inconsiderate roommate on the proper chores?

Move out as the end-it-all solution to teach the lazy roommate a lesson on the importance of respect, for self and other mates?

Try as you may, in reality you can not force a roommate to clean. I would suggest that in the future, you sign the lease, and that way the apartment is officially yours. You can accept a roommate with conditions this way...set your expectations on the onset, and this way if your roommate turns out to be a deadbeat, you can search for a replacement as you are packing their dirty clothes for them. Best of luck

Some people have different ideas of cleanliness. Sounds like your roommate was also being a bit passive aggressive with you, knowing that he/she was annoying you. I think if you really care about having a clean living space you might need to accept that the majority of the cleaning tasks will fall to you if you room with someone who doesn't care. Just try to match up with someone who has similar feelings about neatness.

moving out is all you can do. Chalk it up as a learning experience. People are all different, some's cleaning habits are different then others. He may never learn...not your problem, move on and hopefully the next room mate will be better!
