Why hasn't Protestant apologistics advanced beyond the simple-minded one liner jabs at Catholics of "why do worship Mary" or "why do you worship idols" or "why do you believe in purgatory when it isn't in the bible" or "the bible says..." ?
all claims btw that are baseless.

Watcherd "the bible says" is faulty simply because the bible doesn't have a mouth to speak with. Many times when this slang is used by the simple minded preachers the presuppositon it carries implies the point of view being pushed forward can be the only one which has merit. When the prophets spoke they always said "it is written" and there after quoted the text followed by an explaination. Today we must do more and explain the context in which the explaination is given as we do not live in the time of the bible prophets but in the secular age.

Armygal yes I've read CS Lewis and Ravi.
CSLewis tends to lean toward Catholicism and not ......away from it. He believed in purgatory you know so he wouldn't have made the same one liner jabs. If you think him you should read Hilary Beloc and GK Chesterton the higher influences which helped Clive become Christian in the first place.
I've read Ravi, liked his book on Oscar Wilde he does tend to ignore Catholicism however. I'll assume this is his way of marginalizing it must be his brand of evangelical Protestantism. By the way good old Oscar converted to Catholicism you know as I recall Ravi left that one out of this book as he dicussed Mr. Wilde's finding Jesus go figure.

Gee - my dear Gee you ask why do Catholics do those things? I ask how could they? You ask a question which is not possible as the vast number of lower church Protestants
1.do not honor or admire Mary and therefore cannot be wrongfully accused of worshipping her as they tend to distant themselves so far from our Lord's family.
2. as they do not have sacred art in their chapels, assemblies, or prayer halls as these constitute a fear factor gospel for them instilled from the time of the Puritanical Puritans whom by the way were not that pure at all.
3. as a majority now teach a doctrine of receving final heavenly salvation before this life is over and therefore hold to no teaching of purification upon or after our physical death.
