you can be taught somethung but it's upto you if you believe in it.
i come from a catholic family and we go to church every sunday.
when i was a teenager i saw it as a drag and didn't like the fact that i was being made to go.
then because i was going thru personal problems like with friends and stuff i had no one to turn to and that's when i guess the faith thing came in.
every sunday that we'd go to church i actually started listening to the sermon instead of daydreaming and funnily enough the very first day i decided to pay attention, the things the priest was talking about applied to me.
from then that's where my faith began and it's what i turn to when i have issues.
so i guess at the end of the day it's down to you.
for me i believe that as long as i have my faith in god at the end of the day no matter what the problems maybe, everything will be ok

Most people believe by imitation.
A small number of people believe in what they want to believe based on physical observations.
A much smaller number believe in what they learn carefully and consciously realize that it is true.
That is why we need a proper education to enable all men to use their rational sense in seeking for their true destinies and to reach highest achievements in this age of human maturity.

Both. We as children are taught by our parents their beliefs. If not, then we as spiritual recepticals will want to believe in something wheather in God or Satan or UFO's, etc.
I say, believe in something truthful that has historical proof in its testaments. Thats why I am a Christian. Not only is there proof in God's dealings with Israel, but also in my personal relationship to Him as well. I don't put my faith in something I can't experience.

I was raised to be a bra-burning, tree-hugging, democratic, Jesus-hating, Christian-bashing, liberal femi-nazi.

Now I'm a Bible-toting fundamental Christian. I believe because it's true.
