Can you step outside thinking that anyone's holy book is the ultimate truth for a moment and consider how religions started?

Because religions came about as a way to explain the world, how people fit into it, how to survive in it, why there is death, what happens after we die, etc.

And those circumstances were different for different peoples.

If you lived in an environment that allowed for very little wiggle room for survival, then your idea of God would be different than the idea of God that the people living in a very temperate climate that had lots of uncultivated food available.

And then there is the poetic imagination of the people themselves, which is very different from culture to culture.

Plus, most Gods started out as Gods of place - the spirits of the local water supply, the weather of the region, the local flora and fauna, etc, and those also were quite different from place to place.

Now , the poetic imagination of various peoples (also different from place to place and culture to culture), results in different kinds of heros and villains, and different tests they do through, so you have different teaching stories. The "moral of the story" will be very different in different environments..

Last, add a bit of the rules to live by (which will largely be determined by the environment), shake well, and viola! you have a religion!

So it's actually quite logical that there would be different gods for different peoples, and very different types of religions.

God does not exist. but if it does exist, it is evil and that's the reason it would allow many "wrong" religions to spread their doctrines with the only intention to create conflicts and chaos. The same occurs with the weather and natural disasters which kill millions of innocent people all over the world, for example. Reality shows that a christian all loving god is only a pleasant fantasy, because god is supposed to be god and therefore nothing would escape of its control. It knows the past, the present and future, whether for good or ill it knows which decision we are going to take before we even think about it!
It created all live based on death and killing of other living beings to survive! So if god exists, it is evil and he has been creating confusing religions.

ANSWERS: God is evil or God does not exist

God didn't give us many to choose from. Their is one faith. Man has created religion to create a lesser form of worship to God that simply forms to their own lifestyle. Let the word of God be truth but every man a liar. Jesus is God. Through Jesus is the only way to heaven. Study your bible, and pray for enlightenment. Not all christian religions are the real thing. Any time you stop believing in the word of God or his promises to you, then thats when other ideoligies can lead you away.

With over 33,000 competing Protestant religions, I thought about this question, too. I think that God probably allows this to happen to separate those who are truly seeking His true Church from the disobedient stubborn ones who don't care if they are in His true Church or not.

The fullness of God's revealed truth can only be found fully in His Church, the Catholic Church. The ones who don't care to find the truth about God through His Church are the lukewarm ones that it talks about in the Bible.

"Islam is wrong in my opinion - just a wierd corruption of the previous version (Christianity)." Okay so Islam is not a good religion for you then. "I believe that adultery is wrong due to the fact you're breaking a solemn promise to someone you love(d) but is okay in some circumstances - if your partner is an a**hole or doesn't give you what you require. Also it is more okay for men to do it than women." Also... "Men and women are equal but men should have slightly more power and prestige." I stopped there. Good luck in finding a right religion for yourself. Don't forget that god loves you no matter what decision you make.

What makes you think God gave us those religions? If we are to truly love God, we must be able to choose. Without free will there could be no true love. But with the freedom to choose comes the freedom to choose wrongly.

God gave us one true religion, but just as we always do Man rebels and wants to exercise their gift of free will for bad instead of good. I for one feel I have God I don't need religion....

If my four children all choose different religions will I stop them and say you can't? There are really not that many - there are variations by the thousands but only a handful of mainstream philosophies.

had there been accountability practiced from the beginning (Mat 18 1COR, letters ti Tim) for elders and the flock alike as scripture directs we would not be more than one body. The flesh does not want to be accountable and sees it as a bad thing when in reality is keeping each other accountable is the loving way to go.

It has something to do with free will, probably.

Most religions have some elements of religious truth. I believe that only one religion, Roman Catholicism, contains the fullness of religious truth -- but other religions have some truth to them also. Only some.
