Have you noticed the change in children's imaginary play since we were little? I used to play mummies and daddies, most of the children I come across now play parties and pretending to be their fave celebrity. My friends and I used to want to be nurses and teachers, now many children just want to be famous. Don't you think this is sad?

It is really sad. Children are playing as if they are already grown up and are so much more aware of the things you wouldn't think a 3 or 4 year old would. One of my daycare kids is always pretending she drinks beer and another smokes ciggerettes of cource I don't let them play this way but when I say something it sparks more curiosity and adds fuel to the flame

I work with 5-7 year olds and haven't noticed this at all. They mainly pretend to be animals when I'm with them and only one wants to be famous when she grows up. Most of the others want to be nurses or doctors or teachers or ballerinas!

I haven't noticed this too much... but I hope I don't ever because you are right, that is quite sad. My son is 2 and he loves pretend play. Right now he either pretends to be animals or pretends to "cook" dinner and serve it to me :) It is very cute, and I will be very sad if he gets older and pretends to be a celebrity instead.

Yes. I wonder how many have made a mud pie. I'm afraid we've taught children to despise the simpler things in life.
