But i've read most root canaled teeth don't last. Not only do they cost but they're also useless because they would eventually have to be extracted due to severe pain?

I think the tooth pain that I had before the root canal was worse than the pain during the root canal. Root Canals are NOT as bad as everyone says they are. I think the only discomfort I had was having my mouth kept open with some plastic thing for about 40 mintues.

ok. the pain you are in before the root canal is so much worse that the procedure. i have had 5 root canals. once the dentist gives you pain killing injections all you feel is pressure. I asked for heaps and heaps of pain killers so i knew i would feel nothing. find a dentist you feel comfortable with, a root canal can take a few visits.
believe me, getting a root canal is 1,000 times better than ending up with an absess or having teeth removed. Good luck, be brave!

yes it hurts .I may not have got one but for a root canal you have to go the dentist again and again. I say who went for root canal when i was at the dentist it was like all the traffic in a country all the people in the cars were pressing the horn together that was the sound .i don't know what to compare it with but if you get a root canal please tell me.

don't listen to the horror stories, they are not true, the only way you will feel it is if you have infection present and are not able to get numb, root canals are no different in feeling than a filling, i have had several patients to fall asleep during the treatment, i don't know what dentist these people are going to, you have nothing to worry about

IVE BEEN IN THE WAITING ROOM WHILE A FRIEND HAD A ROOT CANAL AND I DIDNT HEAR THEM LET OUT A SCREAM. I WAS THE DESIGNATED DRIVER. THE OLDEN DAYS IT HURT BECAUSE ALL THEY HAD WAS WHISKEY TO DEADEN YOU AND THE AREA THAT NEEDED ATTENTION. MODERN ANESTHETIC WORKS WELL AND IS LOCAL. ITS A GRINDING SOUND BUT NOT SO MUCH PAIN. THE HEALTH OF YOUR TEETH CAN AFFECT THE ENTIRE BODY, SO JUST GO GET IT DONE.

if your dentist numb you, you should be ok. you can ask him/her to give you something to make you calm. you will not be asleep but you will not recall the dental experience
