Very long story but I have an english tutor who charges 50 dollars for each lesson (doesn't matter if its 1 hour or 1 and 1/2 hour or 2 hrs or whether you're in a group of 2 or 3 people or more) and every time i go to her place I feel like all we're doing is trying to burn time. Most of the lesson time she spends stressing over her life issues such as her house or she is text messaging/calling friends. Should i continue with her? She has very enticing resources written by her past students probably from when she could teach properly though.

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like this woman is very professional. I'm an English teacher in Japan, and I have some private students. My rates are known in advance and can be adjusted for groups. Some of my private classes enjoy free talking, including stressing about life issues, but mobile phones are turned off during the lesson. If I were you, I'd find a different teacher. Good luck.

It sounds as though you already have big doubts so perhaps you should stop and find someone else. All she seems to be doing is frustrating you. If you feel awkward telling her just say that's all you can afford for now.

A good English teacher will start the lesson by recapping on what was done the last time and discussing any difficulties you had then the rest of the lesson should progress on from that point.

Good luck.
