So well my question is about this "problem" i've had since I was pretty young. Basicly what it is well..at times evrything I hear will like echo strangely...like its hard to describe but its like I hear the acctuall sound then it echoes back angry and depressing. Like it doesnt even have to be a human voice just like the sound of a saltshaker hitting the table can sound depressing or almost angry at me.

Now its not completely random though...its almost as though I can chose when it starts but then getting it to stop is hard. I dont know. I just feel like im insane....does anyone else get this? is this normal? Please help...

Sometimes we can hype things up and turn them into things. It could stem back to when you were a child. Maybe you heard a sound which you found frightening or something like that and now you are focussing on sounds too much. Hypnotherapy could help you know this because it would make you aware of any sounds from the past that have caused fear or some sort of emotion.

Don't focus on sounds. Let them be. You seem to be focussing on sounds and then linking an emotion to them. So, if you hear a saltshaker bang on the table, you're immediate thought is to link that sound with anger, then of course the bang sounds angry. Notice though how the emotions you're linking to sounds are negative emotions such as depression and anger. These sounds could probably be happy sounds if you wanted them to be.

These sounds however are simply sounds. The emotions that you are linking them to are created by you. I think this is just a bad habit.

But you do need to speak to someone about this I think. I don't think you're insane, just giving something too much thought. But a trained person will be able to help you get out of this cycle of thought. And give the hypnotherapy a go.

All the best with it. Don't give emotion to sounds. Let them be. Because you're in this habit of thinking about sounds, just like with every habit, these thoughts can seem really difficult to let go of. But, just let the thought come, don't dwell on it or focus on it, and let it go. Just like with every habit, the ability to let those thoughts go will get easier in time. It's just about breaking this bad habit of focussing on sounds and linking an emotion to them.

No i would not say that it is normal. You could have hearing problems, and pressure on your ear drums, that would cause the sound. Now hearing it as anger i think that part you need to go and talk to someone, like a professional, therapist, doctor, someone that could help you find out what is going on here, and why you feel these things and thoughts are arguy at you. You may feel insane, but i really don't think you are insane, you may need a little help , but i think it is something that can be worked with, so go and see your doctor, and he can tell you what he thinks, or even have test done. So please go and see you doctor, and see if they can not answer it for you, if not then try a therapist.

You can go to a local health clinic or physician for diagnosis.

I don't think that you are insane, but you are having a real experience that is worth further exploration. The most likely course of action is that the physician will rule in or out physical disorders and may refer you to a counselor as well. Don't panic; you'll be fine. But do get yourself some help from a respectful and compassionate physician.

Good luck!

i have been in the mental health field for 30 years and in my opinion that does not sound like symptoms of a mental illness. i had a similar problem, and had it checked out. it was due to allergies and problems with my inner ear. the sounds are very annoying and aggravating and yes i would get depressed because i also had vertigo , and was afraid of getting vertigo from the sounds. see a GP who should refer you to a hearing specialist. it helped me a lot good luck

Sounds like a sensory sensitivity or dysfunction. Perhaps due to Post Traumatic Stress, drug or alcohol abuse and/or Depression. You should definately see a doctor. All these things are treatable.

I DO KNOW IF YOU LIVE IN A SMALL CONFINED AREA FOR EXAMPLE ANYTHING YOU DROP ON THE FLOOR IN A SMALL TRAILER OR SAILBOAT ETC WILL SOUND LIKE A LOUD AWKWARD SOUND TO THE EAR. THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND HAPPY THOUGHTS ABOUT YOURSELF AND OTHERS. DONT GET HUNG UP WITH CHILDHOOD NECESSARILY. LET LOOSE - - - STEP OUT TO A NEW YOU. TALK WITH LADIES AND MEN FRIENDS ABOUT IT . YOU CAN CHECK OUT " INSANITY " ON THE WEB SEARCH BUT IN MY MIND USE A MULTI PRONG APPROACH ABOUT BEING THE NEW YOU. AND THE HAPPY YOU. DO IT !

I would go to a doctor for my hearing, and then to a doctor after that and ask about it..I don't think you're insane, or you wouldn't even be questioning it..but please, go to a doctor and see what the problem it.
