Wow that's really disturbing! I think that if the reason the boy drowned was because of negligent lifeguards, you should cancel your arrangements with them - even though the chances of it happening again would be slim to none, they don't deserve your business right now. If you think you would feel uncomfortable there just because of what happened, like you'd just have an uncomfortable feeling or any of the kids' parents would, then I would change it also. You might also consider that some parents might not want their child to attend after hearing about it. The only reason I would keep the party arrangements is if there's a good explanation for why the kid drowned (although I don't know what that could be) and you feel the shock/discomfort would wear off by mid-February. Good luck!

That is a horrible dilemma. The poor boy and his family.
If it were me I would ask some of the parents of the other children who have been invited. If they don't mind then maybe you can go ahead. It is also worth contacting the pool and asking them what new policies and procedures they have in place to promote a higher level of safety for young children. Might be worth having a backup venue picked out just in case. I hope it all goes well for you.

I woudln't let the drowning affect the party. Odds are....the venue will be even more dilligent with safety after this horrible incident!! Odds are....they weren't responsible.
If you are afraid people won't come to the party because of the drowning....then you will probably want to change venues. You wouldn't want your son to not have people come because of this.
If it were me....I would keep the venue.

Under careful supervision there is no reason to cancel your plans. you seem to have a pretty good party in mind so just keep an eye on them

I would definitely change the venue if I were you. You would not only endanger your own son's life, but also your son's friends' lives.
