When my daughter turned 4 we had a party at the park and invited her preschool classmates (of 20, only 3 showed). And as for being sharp and naughty,.... when mine acted up, she got a time out. Birthday or not. Having a party is even more reason to show manners.

For nmy 4 year old birthday we rented the activity hall at my grandmothers retirment comunity. We celebrated her 4 yr bday as well as my 2 year olds birthday together. We invited all the family members from both sides of the family. It turned out great! But if you have a shy one..why not just at your house with a few ppl. OR you can have several bday parties. Like got to the inlaws house and have a small thing there and then go to your parents places the next day. That way all the family is involved but its not all at once. Mcdonalds, chucky cheese etc there are lots of places to go also

At 3 yrs old, my son is the same way, well behaved in front of other people, sometimes naughty around me & my wife. I always get him a birthday cake, and don't worry about him being messy. Let him have fun and enjoy his birthday. You too should have fun with it by taking pictures, and I suggest putting the icing on his nose for a fun picture. Give him a birthday present and add something too the birthday that he loves. For example, my son loves balloons.

With all three of my children, I found that I got better results if I focused on the positive and not the negative, i.e. Heap on the praise when he gets it right and be very nonchalant when he has an accident (its okay, its no big deal, you'll do better next time, etc.) It takes patience not to punish when it comes to potty training, but you'll find that you'll get better results if you remove the power struggle and let the kid think its his idea. All three of my kids trained in just a couple of days. Once trained, they never had bed wetting problems and never had accidents. For them, going to the bathroom quickly became exactly what it should be: a natural everyday thing that is no big deal. Good luck!

For my daughters.... at 4 years old I did a candle pin bowling birthday party....
It was fun, children and adults could play, they put up bumpers so even the little kids could play & win, it included like 3 lanes for my group size (put about 5 people in a lane), the shoes, and balls, a small party in their lounge area with a cake(they even put scooby on top as requested), ice cream and soda.
It was 105.00 where I live a couple years ago, 1 hour bowling, 1 hour party in the lounge.
I have to say it was great party and easy for the money I spent.

When my daughter was 4 (seems like yesterday) she's now 12 but anyway,, I made her a number barney cake just like the book looked , and i bought a pin yata and filled it with candy and money and when there 4 they can't usually brake it to fast so it will last a little while, and maybe the game pin the tail on the donkey? have them do races or hide some little plastic balls or eggs with candy or money in them , my favorite was to take a little piece of paper and write something on it like 25 cents or 1 piece of bubble gum or sm glass of pop stuff like that you get the drift... put the pieces of paper in the ballon and blow it up tie it off and they would have to pop the ballon to find out what prize they won and a little hint: don't fill the ballons all the way up that way they don't pop as easy. Have fun and have A great Day. sunnydays

Have you tried Macdonald's, it fun for the children and it's not so expensive. They have a game master and they will organise games. I think you have to choose the best location with extra perks like playground, inside a park etc.
hope this help : )

Take him to a theme place where they do all the party planning for you . He will over come his shyness as soon as he figures out that it's all about him . it's just a stage . The party will also help him to socialize with other kids .
