In fact Pakistan itself is facing opposite opinions from its people and media in this case, they say there is a risk to follow the instructions from US in this war. Pakistan is doing a lot blindly, they say, as Saddam used to do ! Now what has happened to Saddam???? Pakistan should keep in mind!!!!!

Quid pro quo.

Pakistan is clearly playing both sides, not daring to jump one way or the other.

I feel the Pakistan as a whole would prefer open islamic fundamentalism.

I also feel they would prefer to avoid the wrath of the USA who quite rightly offered to bomb pakistan back to the stoneage if they didnt join the war on terror.

USA obviously isnt fooled by pakistans loyalties, but if it yields results for the time being then I suppose they are happy to exploit each other.
Indias surge as an industrial and economic force will find pakistan as a neighbour untenable.War is inevitable.Invasion of Iran sooner rather than later will contribute to heading off large scale war in the middle east.

First you've gotta realize that Pakistan is not an alley of the United States. This stems from the America's favoring of India over Pakistan over the 2 nations dispute over Kasmir.

The amount of assistance Pakistan will provide the United States will rely heavily on how much support they receive in return regarding thier conflict with India. They may offer token measures to appease the US in exchange for token financial aid provided by the US. Real substinance will not be provided by Pakistan until the US switches its allegiance to Pakistan.

By fair , are you saying they are helping us ? That answer is yes. Are they doing everything they can to defeat the enemy ? No is the answer. Pakistan does a balancing act between appeasing the extremists and minimizing the effort for its own stability.

Once again the naive Americans thought they could use Pakistan in their successful mission to bring down the Soviet Union, by fostering unrest among the moslems in Afghanistan and then they found out, too late again, that Pakistan has used them to bolster the moslem faith in Asia. Now thanks to America we have fundementalist nutters stretching from the Pacific to the Atlantic. How many more 9/11's will it take for America to go back into its isolationist period. because on the scheme of things, their intervention in world affairs only brings grief and misery to the rest of us.

To a point. There are so many terrorist sympathizers in the government that I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before it collapses and this nuclear armed country falls into chaos.

Fair??? What do you mean? Musharraf is a dictator who is in a very precarious situation balancing between the US and his Muslim countrymen. Very difficult spot to be in. If he goes, watch out.
