I don't know if this counts but there was one Muslim who was a contemporary of Mahatma Gandhi - Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, who was called the "Frontier Gandhi" in the time of the struggle of India for Independence. He was very well known for preaching non-violence and harmony. Strangely, too, he was an Afghan.

History of India reveals that there was a Benevolent Emperor - Akbar, who tried to bring about Harmony amonst Hindus, Christians and Muslims.

Also, there was Baha'ullah who founded the Baha'i sect of Islam, who preached Harmony in Iran.

Before him, the Sufis had many Saints, a very well known one in India was Shirdi Sai Baba who preached the God was One, whichever name you called Him by.

Unfortunately, however, all these people were ostracised and cursed by the Muslims as being "murtads", or renegades!?!?

I guess that just goes to show that the Muslims will not accept change from their Fundamentalist Outlooks, eh????

Islam has produced millions and billions of great people. You just don't hear about them or read about them because most non-Muslims are afraid that those honorable people will have a positive, spiritual impact on the non-Muslims. Besides, read the history (and the TRUTH) about Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, so you can see that he was the top honorable Muslim who ever existed.
I pray that someday, just someday, you, too, will become an honorable human who'd teach tolerance, patience, peace, and love to others-- to Muslims and to non-Muslims.
May God bless you!

They seem to have them. But with the war and the cranking up of the propaganda machine we never hear about them. Don't forget that the Christian Fundies have been at war with Islam for a long time now, and as Simon points out there is a large number of Muslim Fundies out there also.

It's like asking when Africa will produce a Plato, Aristotle, Confucious, or any great person in literature, art, science or humanity.

It is not in their nature to produce such things.

We have no idea. But Islam is not an evil religion. It is similar to Christianity. I hope the Christians who denounce Islam know that Jesus Christ (Blessed be his name) was from the Middle East. Christianity was also from the Middle East.
