Don't know many French people to be honest. At my job I had a French boss and he was great, nice, patient, etc. I never talked politics or personal stuff with him - not like he used Yahoo!Answers or anything like that :)
I think it is sad that all a lot of people know about other cultures is what they see on TV, and heck we don't even get to see French TV the way they can see American movies.
Take a trip to France someday and find out, oyu may learn a lot :) I learned a lot about British people when I went to London in 2004. They're very friendly and curious about the strange country they started back with the colonies in the 1500's :)

Most of the French people I have met here in the States have been super friendly. But the ones I met when I visited Paris were overwhelmingly pompous and hateful towards Americans. Europe was awsome, and the history and art in Paris was unbelievable, but I'll never go back there.

I think it is hard to make a sweeping statement about a nationality in general, there will always be some especially nice people and some especially nasty people where ever you go! But one of my good friends is French and lives in/is from Paris, and she is great. I am always quite surprised when we are together how similar our outlooks are in life, despite all the supposed Anglo-Franco animosity! So although I said it's hard to generalise, in general and in my experience the French are lovely people!!

Marc Kendrick are you sure you weren't in America because that sounds like them. Secondly I have a few French teachers and they are all very nice and I want to be French lol. Nah, not really but I am going to work in France for a year in June so I must like them.

I think they're great. I've been on holiday a few times over there. Some of my friends think they're stuck up because they refuse to speak English but I always say that if they came to England they have to speak English. We go to France and expect them to speak English too. I speak a little french (enough to get by) and whenever I get stuck they happily assist me with their language.

love em to bits! even the ones in Paris. Yeah ok, one of my mates got wacked over the head with a briefcase by a proper **** after accidently knocking him on the metro and i got flashed at twice by dirty sods on the trains in Paris but apart from that Paris, the Parisians and the French in general rock!

Remarkably similar to the English except that they speak French... I just don't think you can justifiably have an opinion about an entire nation, so I can't answer!

They're nice. I go to France all the time out in Strasbourg and everyone out there is really polite and nice. Folks put in Paris are a little rude though, but I think it's because it such a big crowded city

I think French people are great! Great culture and history, good wine and food. It's the current French government that I don't love.
