Alright, what I am about to tell you might be immature, but anyway...

My ex and I broke up several weeks ago, not too long ago. We are not friends anymore, just aquaintances. We engaged in a conversation where there some confession and even confrontation. When he found out that I had some pregnancy symptoms recently, he suddenly looked elated and happy as I told him about the symptoms instead of reacting with "omg oh crap" even though I am not even sure if I am pregnant. I don't really have any plans to get back with him. Why would he react this way?

he could think that if you ended up having a baby by him, he could waltz right back into your life because he's not ready to move on yet, and a child could mutually attach you for life - even if not legally or romantically.

Maybe he hasn't arrived at the possibility that it might not be his or that he's likely to be financially responsible for a child that he might not see very often, because he's still looking at you through rose-colored glasses. Get tested and sort out what it is you're going to want from him if you are actually with child...and good luck!

Maybe he is a paternal person and wants to father a child. Why does every emotional reaction involving people in your life have to be directed towards you? It is considered egocentric, when you think everyone elses behavior has something to do with their feelings about you.
