Does anyone at home have a copy of a previous year's return? The number should be shown there. You can request a transcript (free) or a copy ($39 charge) of your last year's return from the IRS, and that would show the number. Here's the page on how to do that: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=151682,00.html

Here's the page that tells you how to get a replacement social security card: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.html

Good luck.

You can't get SSN number online?!?!?!?! If the govn't started to do that now...i'd be up in cahoots!!!

Anyways, you need to call the Social Security department and request for a form to obtain a new card.

I work in taxes, and I do believe (but please don't take my word) that you can file your taxes without their SSN (but the taxpayers MUST have their ID) but check this out on www.irs.gov. I've never had a client that didn't have the information but generally if there is a problem with the return they will send us a letter within the year. And you can then at that point just submit the SSN numbers later.

Get to your local Social Security office and apply for a Lost card replacement. Look on your past income tax returns, the number will be on there. Go to your school office, they have it.

No past returns? No school? Social Security office will give you another one. Birth Certificate (of the child/ren) and pictured ID (of you) will work. Nothing online.
