Short articles on research on L1 in ESL?

I am looking for about 10 short FREE articles on research examining the effectives or otherwise of using L1 in the ESL classroom. I have to write synopses for a project, and am interested in this area. Unfortunately my internet searches to date haven't come up with the goods.
Ideally, I'd like to find articles with research that supports a monolingual, English-only, total immersion approach to ESL.

I googled ESL research and came up with the list below. These sites all have short news stories, synopses, links to other research sites, etc.
I've been an ESL teacher in Japan for more than 20 years. I'm not much interested in research myself, so I can't point you in the right direction from personal experience, but you can check these sites that I like to use:

i won't top Denise or Tarkarri. Their solutions are dazzling. I surely have considered a great number of of those miracle treatments over the final 30 years.
