In my opinion, the ancient men must have studied the animals..and birds whatever they ate the men figured it was good enough for them too. Also their friends and families told them it was spoken instructions instead of books to tell them what was safe to eat. Happy New year 2007

This is biological (genetic) programming.
We tend to like foods with higher calories (for longer survival), sweets (for higher energy), etc.
And food is not the only case. We are programmed for almost all things. We automatically recoil when we see snake. We automatically feel good when we see a person of opposite sex. We automatically get nurturing feelings when we see infants, and so on.
This is survival benefits.

Seems like most things you can cook them or heat them with fire or whatever source to cook with, normally doing this eliminates alot of bad things. Not everything, but most things .
