Yes - there are lots of countries, especially in the middle east, that have desalination plants and make drinking water from sea water. The problem is it is very expensive.

Both ocean water and brackish water can be made drinkable through a process called desalinization in which the water is filtrated in order to remove salt and excess minerals. This is done in many middle eastern countries and islands. I was actually just in Bonaire last week, a small dutch island off the coast of Venezuela and their sole water source is in fact the ocean. They have a desalinition plant on the island that provides all the water to the the people living there. In the case of bonaire, a leading export in sea salt, this works to their advantage in more than one way. The process, however, does cause water to come at a much higher price.

sure can, its easy!
just put it in a pan with a lid. a pressure cooker is most convenient, because a hose can be more easily adapted to connect to the lid where the pressure valve is. use copper tubing to make the hose, coil it several times in a circle, so the steam will have to make several loops before reaching the end. by the time it does, it should be cooled enough to condense back to water. run the other end to the opening of another container.

when the water boils, it turns to vapor. the minerals in the sea water does not vaporize at the same temperature.

Yes by the distillation process but it is costly to do so. This is because this process boils the water and when the water vapour touches the cold surface, voila, drinkable water is formed. Basically, we will be the water vapour.

Yes it can. Through reverse osmosis(a type of filtration). It's usually too expensive to do. In California conservation is a better method, although I think we have one active desalination plant on Catalina Island. The island lack a good reliable water source, which ade the plant necessary.

Water in the ocean cannot be drinkable. Why? Because it has salt in it.

Wow ...You can't imagine the cord your question struck???
Yea it can be! So why don't all the rich pull and populi that usually reside via ocean sides or area's use it? What is it to expensive ?
To de salt rather...hmmm.No the working class ,middle class white and blue collar will end up paying for tit most likely via taxes ...Thats a big question.

We have a desalination plant here in Perth, Western Australia.
It feeds straight into our city's scheme water. Water is our most precious thing.

I think so. I saw some product at my local sporting goods store and it was something that you put in water and its suppose to make it safe to drink. Look in the camping section of your sporting goods store.

Yes but it must first go through a very expensive desaltinization process.
