This is one occasion where I'd actually send you to read the bible, just so you'd see how ridiculous it is.
Genesis 19, wasn't it?
Here are some highlights.
# The two angels that visit Lot wash their feet, eat, and are sexually irresistible to Sodomites. 19:1-5
# God kills everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah. This was because, so say the Christian Right, some homosexuals lived there. 19:4-5, 24-25
# Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Pet.2:7-8. 19:8
# Lot and his daughters camp out in a cave for a while. The daughters get their "just and righteous" father drunk, and have sexual intercourse with him, and each conceives and bears a son (wouldn't you know it!). Just another wholesome family values Bible story. 19:30-38

There was a lot more.
First you have to understand, in the ancient Middle East, where travel was difficult and long, there was a very strict code as to how to treat a traveler and guest. If you took someone as a guest in your household, they were to be treated with the up most respect.
One of the strongest sins you could do was to take advantage of or harm someone who was a guest in your house. So, this brings us back to Sodam and Gomorrah.
You see, the angels arrive to check it out and Lot invites them in. The rest of the story goes as you've heard. The townsfolk come out and demand Lot send out the strangers that they might "know" them. Lot refuses, offers his daughter instead. Angels intervene and Sodom and Gomorrah get nuked (well not really nuked, probably it was a volcanic event). Lot and his daughters get away.
So you see, it wasn't merely being gay. Rather the people were so corrupt that for fun they gay gang raped with probable intent to murder any stranger that came into town. So you have one of the worst crimes imaginable committed against the worst person to do it to.
If you need further evidence of the importance of guest, consider that because guest were viewed so highly, Lot felt that offering his daughters was a marginally acceptable alternative to having his guests harmed.

Lot and his family lived in the city of Sodom. Along with neighboring Gomorrah, this city had become engulfed in disgusting sexual immorality. Materialism too was a prime focus, finally affecting even Lot’s wife. Jehovah had told Abraham: “The cry of complaint about Sodom and Gomorrah.
When Jehovah heard “the cry of complaint about Sodom and Gomorrah,” he did not immediately destroy those cities and all their inhabitants. He first made an investigation. (Genesis 18:20, 21) Two angels were sent to Sodom, where they took up dwelling in the house of the righteous man Lot. On the night of the angels’ arrival, “the men of the city . . . surrounded the house, from boy to old man, all the people in one mob,” desiring to have homosexual intercourse with the angels.
Jude 7 says that they ‘committed fornication excessively and went out after flesh for unnatural use.’

So, an Angel gets sent to Lot. the people essentially want to gang-rape said Angel. Lot tries to be a good host, and keep the people from raping his guest (the first rule of hospitality, doncha know), but the people still want to rape this angel. G-d isn't too keen on his angels getting raped, so he got really angry at the cities, and he let Lot go because he was a pretty decent guy, what with the protecting the angel from rape and all. You know the rest what with Mrs. Lot's regret and all.

God could not find even 10 holy men in those cities.
Here is what happened they were doing all kinds of unusual sex acts including homosexual and probably bestiality. But the kicker is when God sent in an two Angels, and they wanted to have sex with them instead of Lot's daughters whom he offered to them. They refused the girl and got blinded instead. So God sent down fire and brimstone.

they were evil and carnal(of the flesh). when Lot had the angels as guests in his house, they wanted him to hand them over so that they could fulfil their lusts. Lot offered his daughters to protect them(know that in those days guests were very much treated with respect), but they refused to leave the guests alone. the angels blinded them, and took Lot in, telling them to leave, for God had sent angels to destroy the city, and seeing Lot had saved them, they told him to bring his family out and not to turn back. his wife did turn back, and turned into a pile of salt, destroyed with the city.
there have been findings that coincides with this event, to support that the city Sodom was destroyed in that way.

Are you asking this to look at similairities in the present state of America?
I have seen this question posted a few times recently....
I think it is coming to America and not because of sex, but because of individualism, materialism, consumerism and competition that we idealize here...

I don't believe it was about sex but about how they treated strangers and the poor. Further rape and sex are not the same. It is mentioned in the new testament the sodomites and it refers to being selfish and self serving.

They were all evil. They had incest and child molestation along with fellatio, cunnilingus and other joyous perversions. Only Lot and his daughters were saved. So they went up into a cave got drunk and committed incest and founded two great nations. xx
