I know that sounds really bizarre, but according to the atkins diet, you're allowed as many eggs and meats as you can eat, and I'm sorry but I just don't get full off 2 or 3 eggs...I need 10 scrambled eggs at one sitting to feel satisfied! And I usually eat 10 eggs for breakfast and 10 eggs for dinner, for a total of 20 per day.

And ok I know everyone's going to mention increased risk of heart disease and cholesterol...I know this. But I'm only 23 years old and I don't plan on doing this for the rest of my life...just until I lose about 30 pounds and then I'll start a regular diet/exercise program. Trust me, I know what I'm doing because I followed this exact same program before and I lost about 140 pounds total. But the only difference now is that I'm eating WAY MORE eggs than I was the first time around (simply because I don't have the time to conjure up complicated atkins-friendly meals), and I just want to know if it's dangerous to eat 20 per day!

Thanks for your help!!

Yes, it is dangerous. And let me make a point here: you lost about 140 pounds the first time, but you are only 23 years old. And now you have gained back enough to want to lose 30 pounds. It sounds to me like the Atkins was not as effective as all that.

A diet that sends your food intake way out of balance with regard to protein, carbs and fats will not help you keep the weight off once you stop using the diet. You will instead gain back quickly, because your body is trying to get the food elements you have been denying it.

When you say you do not feel full with three eggs (a big serving by most standards), but need ten at a time, you are saying that your appetite is still way out of control. It is time to talk this over with a doctor, possibly a nutritionist, and possibly a psychologist.

Or go to Overeaters Anonymous and learn to apply the 12-step program to your compulsive eating. I lost more than 140 pounds that way, and it took some 20 years to gain it back once I quit the program.

I don't think that will last long. You'll get to where you'll never look at an egg again. LOL. I don't really know if 20 eggs a day are bad for you or not. My gut says a big YES. I doubt they're deadly though. If you're doing Atkins, and have done Atkins before, then you understand the necessity of eating enough carbs too, good carbs. Lettuce, cucumbers....salad stuff, is a very important component on the diet. I've done Atkins before and trust me, I'm not the kind of person that has the time, or the want-to, to sit down and cook elaborate meals. That's the beaty of Atkins though. Meat is not hard to cook, and it's not that time-consuming. How long have you been on it this time? I know when I was on it the best thing about it was the decreased appetite and extra energy. That came about 3-4 weeks into it though.

Just remember this moto: Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

I am on the south beach diet and I also eat eggs, but I limit myself to 1-3 eggs a day. I also eat things like fat free yougurt and cheese, broccoli, salad w/ olive oil dressing, Cauliflower. Any veggie except corn, carrots, and potatoes.

Try a variety because sooner or later all those eggs are going to catch up with you, maybe not now but in a few years it could. Age isn't a factor on cholesterol or heart disease but family history is.

Yeah, that's not good to eat that much of it. And like an above poster said, the Atkin's Diet isn't the smartest diet, and it also just doesn't work for some people. I've known 7 people who tried it, and it only worked for two of them.

How about the South Beach diet, or any numerous diabetic diets? Even if you don't have diabetes, they will definitely help you lose weight.

Even though they say you can have as many as you want, by eating that many eggs, you're cutting other things out of your diet. I've been on Atkins, and had really great results, but was always careful to vary my diet. If you don't get the proper ammounts of vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats, you'll end up malnourishing your body, not doing anything good for it.
Malnourishing is bad diet, not lack of food, and you can total your kidneys and liver if you don't watch out. Don't let your laziness screw you up.

It's really dangerous. Maybe you would think you're still young and you won't do that after losing weight. But it does already affect your health and you don't find it. I can tell you that you won't make it by this wrong way. Even you make it, then you'll go back to normal diet, right? You'll gain weight again in short time.

20 eggsa DAY is way too many! I dont know how you can eat 10 at once. I can barely eat 2 even when hungry! If you are on Atkins you need to fill up more on veggies, fish, chicken, turkey.

If youre going to keep having that diet I think you won't see the light of day to actually start your regular diet/exercise program that you're saying. Losing weight is also about HEALTH. And I won't be surprised if you're cholesterol level hasn't sky rocketed yet.

Eggs are high in protein. But I do not see a problem with eating them as long as they are cooked. If they are not cooked then you will get high levels of avidin which will create for some bad medical problems. But yeah besides that like you mentioned...heart disease and cholesterol....but you should be fine.
