Before reading on think about this: How many of us can actually say that we have grandparents who were ATHEIST?

The bible says that eventually, many people will begin to deny God or Christ, which signifies the end of the world and the end of times. Since atheism has gone up an amazing 10% in the past ten years, what does this mean? Could the Bible be right and could the end times be near? Why does if feel so much more "acceptable" to talk about porn and sex and blasphemy than it does to even talk about God? Why else is religion becoming so taboo other than what the Bible has said?

I know the atheists are going to think I'm an idiot BUT...what OTHER reason other than the Armageddon prophecies could explain why atheism/irreligion has gone up SO FREAKING MUCH since the 80s and 90s?

I believe we are upon an age where many apocalyptic prophecies will come to a head.
Atheism increase is definitely foretold as an end time event in the bible.
Another bible end time prophecy is that the world will end when we build a dwelling place in the heavens. Some look at the finishing date of 2010 for The International Space Station as this occurrence.
The Mayan Calendar mysteriously ends on 12/21/2012, and it is believed they predicted the end times at this date, long before our culture ever even existed.
There's The St.Malachy Prophecies , where the archbishop prophesized every pope for over 600 years with the last one being our current, check this one out, way cool.
The Solar Maximum occuring around 2012 at the same time astronomers predicting our solar system heading into a far more "dusty" region of space, these events combined could mean trouble.
It seems the world is coming to an end to many , and in many different ways.

I do not know how many of us can actually say that we have grandparents who were ATHEIST.
Whatever bible says, there is a new testament, old testament, and Scientology Church of Chris with meditation, contemplation, and whatever else which help man to become human.
The end of times is near for some and far for others.
It is much more "acceptable" to talk about porn, sex and blasphemy nowadays than past. Of course, there has been a lot of talk about God.Religion is not becoming taboo and Bible is one book among many in the world of religion.
I do not think atheists are going to think you are idiot. There could be a lot of other reason than the Armageddon prophecies could explain, for example atheism/irreligious wants to have more reason than just believe this or that since the 80s and 90s.
And, after all there are so many worlds, one may replace for better; but never the end of "whole World". That is for sure.

Islam is also on the rise. What about before christianity existed? What are you trying to say? A sudden change in thought = the end of the world? Paradigms have changed throughout history. Sadly, now its one you're attatched to.

Was the feminist movement something that led to this? Women gained more power and independence, and therefore became more open about themselves and sexuality. How is this bad? Sex is a very natural thing. We need to do it to survive. Do you think that the world will end if there are no more christains? Lets say we all are taught tolerance and compassion by our parents and throughout school since birth. WHat type of world would that be?

Does it need CHRISTIANITY? You are assuming the christain faith is needed for society to run and survive. Think carefully about why this isnt...really true.

With what you said plus 2 world wars, innumerable other wars, famine, pestilences earthquakes, and other calamities, wouldnt t show that we are living in the end times? Bible chronology and prophecy says so.

2 ways why atheists arise.

1. As you mentioned, their love for God cools. (Matthew 24)
2. They are disillusioned with the false teachings of Babylon the Great (The empire of false religion) and doesnt want to do anything with her. (revelation 18)

Btw, do not take the 'world' literally, the world that will end is the corrupt system, chaotic morality....the earth on the other hand will not.

Easy. The advent of science has made it easier for people to think and apply analytical methods to religious questions, and of course when they do so they realize that religion is hokum. Dawkins does a nice job dealing with the subject in his new book. (Incidentally, the end of the world will happen on April 1, 5,000,000,147 AD, when the sun, having run out of hydrogen at its core, goes red giant and eats the earth. Don't wait up.)

"what OTHER reason other than the Armageddon prophecies could explain why atheism/irreligion has gone up SO FREAKING MUCH?"

maybe you're wrong. maybe atheism is right. maybe armageddon isn't happening, there is no god, and whatever it says in the bible is a bunch of hooey.

that would certainly explain it.

How many people 50, 60, 70, 1000 years ago would admit they were atheists in the kind of environment going on in the world. It used to mean death or freakdom. "Commie" has been thrown around so much it's now laughable in the past 60.

With the internet people are free to explore philosophies at will and discuss what they truely think and talk to others who think the same way.

I think that's why polls show larger numbers. We are coming out and others are figuring out what it really is for them... not what they have been told to think.

The death toll from killing in the name of God has surpassed 100 million with no end in sight. Somethings wrong with a God Concept that has taken so many lives and encourages the followers to ignore it.

The world is a much better place than it was when our grand parents were children. It is easy to think of it as simpler times, an age of innocence but it was not at all that way, the world was a horrible place. Children dying, life expectancy much shorty. Racial discrimination. Nuclear war, Cold war, etc.

Well considering the fact that christianity is growing, I'd say your theories are unjust.
