When I first started smoking pot, I heard about "the munchies." The dreaded munchies, said this fat girl. But I learned something very interesting: you CAN resist the munchies! They are mostly about having something to input. But if you keep low or no calorie food and drink handy, the munchies are as satisfied by a little of that as by potato chips and candy.

I would keep chicken and beef bouillon cubes handy, and some nice teas, and perhaps sometimes sugarless candy. Sometimes just the act of preparing the tea and watching the steam rise from the mug while it steeped, and the whole little ritual with the tea bag and the Sweet n Low packet, became a little meditation.

But of course I have not smoked weed in many years, since it is illegal and I do not indulge in illegal activities.

Cravings can be controlled by drinking lots of ice water. Yes, this means putting ice cubes in your water and perhaps a bit of lemon or lime. The ice water cools your body forcing it to warm itself up and helps speed up your metabolism, a good thing so that you burn calories off quicker. The water also fakes your stomach into thinking its full for longer periods of time in-between meals.

Try eating a diet of food from the glycemic index. These would include whole grain and brown rice. These good for you foods keep the sugar in your body at a more constant level and give you more energy throughout the day.

If you are getting cravings the best thing to do is exercise...a quick walk. Stop and analyze why you are having the cravings for food. Are you doing something that you would normally have food nearby? Like do you eat at the computer? If so you will need to break the bad habit. Take your meals at the table and eat slower.

Also when you feel like you really need that snack, grab something healthy for you like fruit. Or if you want a treat have some jello whipped up with fat free low calorie cool whip. Believe me it is a very satisfying treat.

Lots of times when your body says "Hungry" it really means "thirsty" but doesn't know how to say it. Drink lots of water. When you feel hungry drink rather than eat.
